Steven’s review of Special Correspondents

The Ricky Gervais produced comedy Special Correspondents was released on April 29, 2016. Frank Bonneville (Eric Bana) is an obnoxious radio reporter who will do almost anything to get a story. Ian (Ricky Gervais) is his sound technician. When they are assigned to cover a rebellion in Ecuador, things go haywire when Ian loses their passports and money.

Vera Farmiga is Eleanor, Ian’s ambitious wife who uses the situation to gain fame and money for herself. All of the actors did a great job and the storyline was amusing. Ricky Gervais is a British comedian and writer who also wrote, produced, and directed the film so his absurdist sense of humor is throughout the film. The directing and editing were also well done.

This film was rated TV-MA, so there is some swearing in the movie. The humor is not slapstick or unnecessarily obscene, but it is amusing situation-wise. I give it 4 stars out of 5.
