Steven’s review of Assimilate

The movie Assimilate was released on May 24, 2019. Zach (Joel Courtney from Super 8) and Randy (Calum Worthy) live in a small town and are streaming their lives. When Kayla (Andi Matichak) comes to them and says her father is behaving strangely, they go to investigate.

The acting was, for the most part, well done. I must tip my hat to Mason McNulty who played Kayla’s young brother Joey. He was very good at conveying his emotions for the scenes he was in. Directing and photography were also well done. The CGI was good and different but the main problem was the story. It was not very original and I had figured out half of the ending twenty minutes before it ended. It reminded me of a remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

The film wasn’t totally over the top but it wasn’t horrible either. It kept my interest and the characters were believable. I give this 4 stars out of 5.
