Thor: Ragnarok premiered in the United States on November 3, 2017 and is the seventeenth movie set in the Marvel universe. As a child, I admit I read a few comics. Thor was my favorite character because I have always had an interest in ancient mythology. This is the third installment of the Thor series and it is good and full of action. The other thing I like about this film is the mythological elements have a bigger part in the story.

There are two plot lines going on here, 1) Hela,(Cate Blanchett) as Odin’s first child, takes over Asgard and plans to conquer the other worlds of this universe and 2)Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is captured and made a prisoner on the planet Saakar. Thor becomes a fighter in the arena for The Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum) and is pitted against the Hulk. That’s all I’m going to say about the story line. The rest you’ll have to find out for yourself and believe me it is well worth it. Jeff Goldblum’s performance is outstanding and there are some funny lines throughout the film.

For those people who are not fans of the Marvel universe because you don’t consider comic books as serious literature, I suggest you watch it for the sheer entertainment of it and the action sequences.  The special effects are well done, especially the wolf Fenrir and the giant Surkur. I plan to buy this as soon as it becomes available.  I give this 5 stars out of 5.

I am not a comic book person so this movie was confusing on many levels, but it was full of action, even though it was made for little kids that did not know that people bleed. That alone defeated my outlook on this film. When someone dies kids, there is pain and usually, there is blood, none of that was shown.

The foreground goodies were very good, however, the backgrounds of this movie needed real artists, not cartoon makers, giving the movie, as good as it could have been, a comic book setting, maybe that we the intent, but again for me, it distracted from the movie.

As a writer that TRIES to get everything right, this movie had way too many holes in it, not a very enjoyable time. I am not going to rate this film, I can say comic book people should love it, and those of us that do not look at comics will be going: What the hell did I just watch?

The action looks good, but even the trailer was confusing. It seems they are making a lot of movies based on comic books and some are probably going to suck. I will watch it and see I guess.
