StevenF Review of The Space Between Us

The film The Space Between Us was released on February 3, 2017. It is rated PG-13 and is listed as science fiction, drama, and romance. Sarah Elliot leads a group of scientists to a base established on Mars. While there, she discovers that she is pregnant and gives birth to Gardner (Asa Butterfield). When he is sixteen, he finds a way to get to Earth, in hopes of finding his father. When he arrives on Earth, he escapes NASA and gets together with “Tulsa” (Britt Robertson) a girl he communicated with while he was on Mars.

I wanted to see this movie when it first came out, but it apparently wasn’t in theaters that long. This is a shame because I thought it was an excellent movie. All of the actors did a fantastic job portraying their characters, especially Asa Butterfield. The directing was also very good. The story line was above average, but I suspect some of the science wasn’t feasible. I thought that Gary Oldman, as the director of the Mars project, was good. I’ve enjoyed Mr. Oldman’s work ever since I saw him in The Fifth Element. I almost didn’t recognize him because of his beard.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. The romance elements were not sickening, in fact they added to the characters’ personalities. There was some humor in the story, which I always appreciate. I give this 5 stars out of 5 and have added it to my list.

Gary Oldman and Asa Butterfield were excellent in this movie, 5 of 5 stars just for that. The movie itself was above average, taking us where no man has gone before. It actually shows us the perils of space travel like you have never seen before, at least to my knowledge.

I really enjoyed this movie that was very different to the usual sci-fi stories. The lead actors played their parts well particularly Asa Butterfield. A definite 5/5 from me.
