The Ritual is a British movie which was released on 13 October 2017. It stars Rafe Spall who is in the recent Jurassic World film as well as others, which I have seen. I consider him a great actor who can do adventure, action, and comedy movies. The Ritual is about four friends who go on a hiking tour in northern Sweden. As the title suggests, this is a hiking trip which slips into elements of paganism.

The story was set at a good pace and the scenery was beautiful. The musical score was relevant to the film and worked well psychologically. I liked the use of runes because I have a book about them, so I had a sense of what was going to happen. It also gave the viewer a hint of what to expect, even if they did not know anything about these pagan symbols. Whether having this information spoiled the movie for me or not, I’d have to say “not really”. If anything it prepared me for what was to come.

All of the actors were very good at portraying their character. There was enough tension in the movie to keep the audience’s attention. Scary movies are not necessarily my cup of tea, but this kept the gore to a minimum. Although I would not buy this movie, I would watch it again and I do recommend it to others. I give it 5 stars out of 5.

I had a hard time understanding some of the English pronunciations, but I understood enough to watch the whole thing. Some people will think this is gory, others like me, well I think it served its purpose. And some people will jump out of their seats, but I will not name names. I rate this 4 out of 5 only because it did not make me jump, but I am sure most WILL jump!

This movie was not something that I would watch normally, but I enjoyed it and it definitely scared the POOP out of me 😛
