I must confess that because of the title of the film and the poster, I thought that Shimmer Lake (June,2017) was some sort of monster film like Lake Placid or Creature from the Black Lagoon. Fortunately, it was not.  I believed this because I did not watch any trailers for this film; I went straight to the movie.  Shimmer Lake is about a bank robbery in a small town where everyone thinks that they know everybody’s business.

I feel that I should alert the audience that the film may be a bit confusing at the beginning.  This is due to the fact that the time line of the film goes from Friday back to Tuesday instead of the reverse.  The only other movie that I remember seeing which used this technique for storytelling was Memento, which I thoroughly enjoyed. There were some funny bits in the movie which bordered on black humor. All of the actors were very good and brought their characters to life. That is, until they were killed. Sorry, I couldn’t resist.

I actually did enjoy this film because of  the pacing of the film and the acting.  The little girl who played the sheriff’s niece was cute and her interaction with her uncle was endearing.  The language could have been toned down when used around the little girl in one scene, but I have to admit it was funny. I would watch this film again and I give it 5 stars out of 5.

Twisted, delightful, painstakingly horrible, but then again you want to watch something ‘different’ Shimmer Lake is different by anyone’s standards and worth the watch. Incredible from the beginning to the ending.

I really enjoyed this. The story was good and I was hooked right from the start. I was definitely not ready for the end that’s for sure!
