Treehouse Hostage (Sept 1999) – In September of 1999 I was nine years old. However, my family traveled and I never heard of this movie. StevenF brought the movie to my attention and last night I watched it. A movie about a bunch of ten-year-olds, nearly my age made in 1999, I had to watch it and did. Joey Zimmerman (Timmy), Jim Varney (Carl Banks), were excellent. The secondary characters although not my favorites played their parts well I suppose, but they were not the focus of the movie.
A bad guy escapes from prison, ends up captured by a group of ten-year-olds. Even though the leader of this group tells the adults they captured the bad guy, he is a known storyteller and no one believes him. I have always said that adults do not believe in the monsters out to get you until it is too late, the same goes for this movie. The adults will not believe you and you are monster meat.
The kids in the movie dressed, well exactly I like was dressed for the most part, but sometimes their clothing was much looser than I wore, they were more like a 2010 clothing style, hard to do when it was made in 1999, but not one person was wearing the fancy clothing of 1999 that I wore. Leave it to someone with the name of Tina Jurovic. a woman, to dress little boys… Did your mother dress you? That is all I could think of while watching it. Remember I said he was a known storyteller? Well at the end of the movie we find out he may have told good stories but he never lied, take that all you unbelievers!
Was the movie funny? I didn’t think so, but I did laugh over the girls getting their share, it was cute, exciting and for a ten-year-old, it could have been a little scary to deal with adults and the police. Jim Varney has passed, but in this movie we see him live on forever. I rate the film 4 out of 5, enjoy it.
