A scary movie is a scary movie, and we have learned that there is a lot of difference between them. What scares many, does not scare all, for instance Poltergeist. Another is Saw and it’s minions which was mainly a blood fest, the scare part is, if it were you. One that really bothered me was the chop shop flick with Mike Myers playing a dead guy come to life. Why is it what when teens and preteens are having fun someone has to chop them up?
I guess if it sells. Another group of movies I did not understand was The Amityville Horror. To me it was dribble but you may have liked it a lot. Jurassic Park scared me more than most these movies did, of course I do not believe in ghosts so that may qualify me as being a skeptic when it comes to horror movies. Others are just blood baths, yes they might be scary but after all death is always scary.
Of course add the funny horror movies to that such as Arachnophobia, and the many other types of horror movies and you have something for everyone. Which brings me to my type of scare/horror movie. The Darkness falls into that category. Oh it will make you jump, and there is suspense, but it is about a family breaking up (Krampus comes to mind) The difference here is that The Darkness has big name actors in it, which in itself keeps it off the B movie rating it included Kevin Bacon, Radha Mitchell, David Mazouz, and Lucy Fry. They all played their parts well, but understand one thing, David Mazouz was the star, and shine he did. David has a great voice I am not sure why they cast him in Touch and movies like this where he plays an autistic boy.
You will all see good and bad in this film, what I really liked was the truth aspect of it, that you do not see in many movies in the last forty years. I give this movie a 4 out of 5 rating. Enjoy.
