10000saintsEthan Hawke (Explorers, Training Day), Asa Butterfield (Hugo, Ender’s Game). Avan Jogia (King Tut in the movie Tut) great actors: drugs and sex. At least that is what I thought when I first started watching it, and the death of a best friend. A very heavy movie, even though I was mistaken about the subject matter.

As the movie starts I couldn’t find Asa. I must have read the cover wrong? No, he is in it from the beginning but you have to get about 1/4 through to recognize him.

I enjoyed the movie to a certain extent. I did not care for the location shooting, but then again I have never actually seen locations like that. I guess millions have. The closest I have ever been to those conditions is while riding in the family van seeing the run down areas of a city we were entering. So to get my head around this movie I had to have a revelation that everything is not as I want it to be.

Actually the movie thank goodness is anti-drug. Of course it is anti meat too. A Vegan movie. So understand, to me it was very confusing. The soundtrack is, well, to me I would call it punk rock. Not the Clash or similar bands, but 1/16th notes with words you can’t understand the first 20 times you hear the song. (okay I am exaggerating a little)

If you can get through this movie it is worth it. I will not have it in my collection, but I did really like the movie. I give it a 3.5 out of 5 stars. August 2015

Oh my gosh I never knew that was what Ethan Hawke looked liked now, but I recognised the eyes right away.
Cool review, I will look for it on Netflix.
