This movie is a sort-of sequel to the 1995 original starring the late Robin Williams. I say sort-of as it can be watched without knowing anything about the original, which is good as I only have a vague memory of seeing that when I was a kid 😛

The story is about four teenagers who are transported into the video game world of Jumanji. The characters are transformed as they enter the game, and these are played by Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillan. The first three are probably well known but Gillan is a Scottish actress who started out playing a companion in the Doctor Who series before moving to Hollywood.

The story is a mixture of action and comedy and the lead actors all contribute to make the story an enjoyable two-hour watch. Jack Black steals the show, however, playing a girl inside a male video game character and he his acting really did make me laugh out loud. Some scenes near the end of the end of the jungle sequence were a little silly though and could have been done differently in my opinion.

The effects were overall very good but there were a couple of areas where you could tell CGI had replaced the characters, particularly in Gillan’s scenes, but this could have been deliberate as it was supposed to be a video game?

I know I have criticised the movie in some areas, but they were really minor and the movie is definitely one to add to your collection with an easy 5/5 stars.

This movie was awesome, and I don’t laugh a lot but I really laughed and enjoyed it. This is a great review by one-day-famous- author Paul. I did think they lost the logic at the end but that can be overlooked because this movie was great!

I agree that this is a remake of the original Jumanji but not necessarily a sequel. To me, a sequel would have the original cast members. This doesn’t, thank goodness because the original actors would be too old for this version and they would have learned NOT to play Jumanji again.
I have seen the trailer many times. It does pique my interest. If I can find it on a streaming system, I will watch it or, if not, I may buy it. The trailer showed some good scenes and gave some funny lines.
