This movie was released in 2001 and stars David Duchovny (Fox Mulder, X-Files) as Dr. Ira Kane and Orlando Jones as Prof. Harry Block who are two college professors that investigate a meteorite that falls close to where they work. After their initial study, they decide to take their students on a field trip and soon discover that something is clearly not right with the rock.
They try to hide their findings only to be forced out by the military who take control of the area and no longer allow them access to their discovery. Not wanting to take a back seat they try to regain control of their discovery with sometimes disastrous results. Along the way they have assistance from a firefighting cadet, who witnessed the impact, and a military scientist who sides with the two professors when her boss freezes them out.
Kane and Block have a nice double act together with some very funny moments. The movie is very believable, especially in the way that the military behave towards the meteor, and the story moves along at a very good pace. The special effects and soundtrack also add to the overall enjoyment. If you like a good sci-fi comedy that doesn’t take things too seriously then this is definitely one to add to your collection. My rating is 5 out of 5.
