knight taleA Knight’s Tale stars Heath Ledger as squire William Thatcher, who is an assistant to a champion jouster who sadly dies during a competition. As nobody has eaten for days, William decides to take his place and after winning decides that he wants to carry on with the competitions. Add in a chance meeting with Geoffrey Chaucer (Paul Bettany) and a love interest for Will and you can imagine the outcome is going to be a mix of comedy and upset.

The soundtrack of popular rock music was a really weird choice but works extremely well and I have to admit that the movie definitely brought a few tears to my eyes. This movie flies along for its two and a bit hours and one you need to watch and I can recommend adding to your collection.

A Knight’s Tale is the movie that made me a Heath Ledger fan. When I first saw it, I found it hilarious. The soundtrack by Queen and others was odd but I found that it was a somewhat subtle way of giving the story a modern feel. This was also reinforced by the use of colloquial expressions: “It’s called a lance, helloooo”.

Ledger’s “squires” (whose names I have forgotten) were also a delight in this film and helped to keep the comedic elements refreshing. Like Paul, I too highly recommend this movie if you have not already seen it. I really can’t imagine anyone who hasn’t. Enjoy.
