Most writers, including the good ones commit suicide. My head shrink says that is not true, but yet he tells me many do. Why would they do something like that? They are the only ones with the universe at their fingertips!
I have some ideas why. Followers: over the years I have built a readership of over ten-thousand people, getting closer to eleven thousand, yet I only have a handful of people that make comments on this blog. Not only that, I can see how many books of Grapes of Rome are selling, and when they were sold, yet only a few have posted reviews on Amazon and other places, and forget reviews, even comments would be welcome.
I am not feeling sorry for myself, I am feeling sorry for all those writers out there who are about to die because YOU didn’t write a review, YOU didn’t re-tweet, or post their work to Facebook and other social sites, yes, they know if you do or not. So after a few books, even if they are making decent money, they feel that their efforts are in vain, become melancholy, and then despaired, and ultimately commit the final act.
Time for a reality check, first a writer should expect that, and second, if you like their writing, then do all those things, then nothing bad would happen and guess what? They continue to write!
I have no facts, but most writers do not live long. How they sit compressing their chest, may cause heart attacks, yet my doctor says that is not true, yet he can’t explain why writers die so young. I do not know, but I think this all has to do with readers, do not make your writer die young and penniless!
