Some people are not fans of anything associated with Marvel, either comic books or movies. I, for one, like the X-Men franchise movies. Now I had never heard of the comic series Guardians of the Universe and even though this film came out in 2014, it took a few good reviews to convince me to buy it. I am glad that I did.
For those who don’t know the theme, here it is as it appears on the case:
Space adventurer Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) steals a coveted orb and becomes the object of a relentless bounty hunt. To evade his enemies, Quill forges an uneasy truce with Rocket (Bradley Cooper), a gun-toting, genetically-altered raccoon; Groot (Vin Diesel), a tree-like humanoid; the deadly assassin Gamora (Zoe Saldana); and the revenge-driven Drax. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb, he must rally his ragtag band of misfits for a desperate battle that will decide the fate of the galaxy.
Some of the other actors in the film are: Glenn Close, Benicio Del Toro, and John C. Reilly as a Xandarian policeman. All of the actors are excellent as their characters and the special effects are very well done. Granted the story may not be of the same caliber as The Stars Wars series, but it does have a, I hesitate to use this word, “cartoonish” sense of humor. The sound track is excellent and, without spoiling it, explained in the preface of the film. There is also enough adventures and battle scenes here to keep even the most jaded viewer enthralled. This is available on Blu-Ray. I rate it 5 out of 5 stars.
