StevenF Review of Lock,Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels

Lock, Stock, and 2 Smoking Barrels was released on August 28, 1998. When a cardsharp loses at a crooked card game, his friends and he must come up with the money to repay a loan. They plan to rob their neighbors who are drug dealers, however their plans become more complicated than expected.

All of the actors were very good in their roles and, although there were some complicated scenes, the story line was funny. Jason Flemyng, Nick Moran, Dexter Fletcher, and Jason Statham were great as the inept crooks. As much as I would like it to be, this is not a perfect movie. With all of the action and violence going on in the film and there were no policemen on call? There were also a lot of colloquialisms throughout, but one scene was so slangy that they put subtitles under it. Hilarious! Not that it is totally relevant, but the film was directed by Guy Ritchie who would go on to marry Madonna. More relevant is the fact that he did a great job as a director.

The film was rated R due to the language and violence. The film kept my interest and I will add it to my collection. Dare I say it? This film is a classic! However, due to some scenes unbelievablity (no police in the midst of all this violence?), I give this 4 stars out of 5.
