Every once in awhile I have to point out that any and all movie reviews from this site are seen before a review is made. Before this movie was released there were over 200 reviews of it, mostly bad. The writers here always watch a movie before reviewing it, and we do not let other reviews influence what we say. This has to be said, because our reviews are much different than the majority of people that post for their fifteen seconds of putting down a movie, or building a movie up, based on the trailer, and not the movie. That is not fame, that is basing a movie on the cuteness, or dislike of the subject matter.
How it Ends (July 2018) is in one of those movies. Over 200 reviews that couldn’t find a good thing to say about it. Odd, luckily I did not read those reviews before watching it. Unlike most Americans, I will not be influenced by hateful people. To give you an example I watched the Trailer for Disney’s The Jungle Book (2016) First it was a Disney film, so naturally I gave it a minus 5. Talking animals normal for a Disney film, minus 10. Then I saw the movie, If I would have gone by my feelings for Disney, the movie was crap, but no, not I. I watched the film, and now it is one of my top ten favorite movies of all time, I cannot say that about any other Disney Film I have seen.
How it Ends will not be in my top ten, however I have to rate it a five star movie. Good acting, good photography, gritty and realistic story line, but most of all, great CGI even though there was not a lot of it, and it was a story anyone could relate to. So pack up your kids as America falls apart and take them for a road trip. You will not survive, and your children will probably be eaten since there will be a lack of food, at least for a generation.
However in How it Ends, we see the destruction of America first hand, from the perspective of those alive at the time. Not some super hero. Two men set out across the United States Theo James (Divergent Series), Forest Whitaker (Too many movies to list), to find the love of their lives. Granted It is hard to believe, but here it happens, and it is understandable. What they encounter on this road trip, they should have expected, they did not, which makes the story an edge of your seat breath taking movie. After all these are true actors, and you could feel the tension.
I rate it 5 out of 5. Enough to watch it over and over again.
